A silversmith by trade, George Reynolds was a Section Commander with the Irish Volunteers at the time of the 1916 Easter Rising. He was one of the small garrison at Clanwilliam House which inflicted large casualties on British forces attempting to advance along Mount Street and Mount Street Bridge.
He was killed on Thursday 27 April 1916 and his body incinerated when the building was finally destroyed by the attacking British forces. Dependents applications from his sisters, Mary and Anne Reynolds, were rejected due to excess means.
